Rhyl Music Project
The workshops offer a chance for participants to learn about musical composition and film-making. The resulting footage and audio is being edited into a film which will be premiered in Rhyl. No previous experience is required.
Workshops are currently taking place at Llandrillo College in Rhyl. Participants in the workshops are supported to improve their confidence and self esteem, and to learn new skills.

Community Harvest
The ‘Community Harvest’ is seeking volunteers to work on their farmland at Dyserth. Participants are able to gain self confidence, self esteem and a range of skills. There is an extensive vegetable plot along with bee hives which the volunteers have developed from scratch with the help of a professional bee keeper. At some point over the next year, honey should be able to be produced and sold locally, along with jam from the berries and vegetables from the farmland.
Working on the projects gives participants team work skills and an amazing sense of achievement, as well as developing the skills needed to progress into learning or employment.

DEVELOPING SKILLS FOR WORK
Retail Skills
An ‘employment route way’ programme enabling participants to develop retail vocational skills within a real work environment, basic skills and gain industry recognised qualifications whilst enhancing employment prospects. The courses will be delivered in the Learning Shop in Wellington Road at the Hub, and will include relevant, fun and engaging ways of developing skills and knowledge. These skills will be transferred into practical work experience in the College Shop ‘Browsers’.

Business Administration Skills
This programme enables participants to develop business, administrative and accompanying ICT skills whilst gaining industry recognised qualifications and preparing for employment. Delivery is in bite size chunks enabling learners to complete individual qualifications, continue with next step, or leave to take up employment.
The programme delivers a range of courses consisting of 12-15 hours of learning each week and is coordinated by a programme tutor who mentors and supports students to their next step whether this is work or further training.

Developing Basic Skills
Get Skilled Up 2 Driving
A project which embeds and develops basic skills, social responsibility and good citizenship. It is designed to develop the requirements which underpin responsible driving with a particular focus on young driving offenders and 17-24 year olds.
The main aim of this programme is to develop the skills needed to become a safe and responsible driver operating within the law. It will also provide participants with the knowledge required to purchase a vehicle. Elements included will be:
• Understanding the working principals of the modern motor vehicle
• The legal requirements of vehicle ownership
• Driving skills development
• Theory test preparation
Numeracy and Literacy Basic Skills development will be embedded in the programme.
The project is designed not only to improve road safety locally but also to develop the essential skills of learners to give them the self esteem and maturity to progress further towards the job market and/or further education and training.

Get Skilled Up in Retail
This is a vocational area providing a platform to improve basic skills. It will provide an opportunity for learners to gain industry recognised qualifications whilst enhancing employment prospects.
The programme will include employability skills such as CV writing, completing application forms, job hunting including on line and interview skills and the development of ICT skills.
Participants will undertake full basic skills assessments and diagnostic to establish their starting point in numeracy, literacy and IT. This will form the basis of course content and the development of individual learning plans.
The programme will support an additional essential skills element associated with the development of participants’ ICT skills and provide them with Learn Direct Accreditation. Where appropriate and applicable other accreditation will be offered. The programme will be developed in partnership with vocational lecturers and basic skills experts.
Progression is a crucial element of this programme. Within each course participants will be advised and supported in considering progression opportunities. Such opportunities may include further training to continue to raise participants’ basic skills onto other programmes.

Strikers!! – Basic Skills in Football
This is an innovative education and football programme which offers literacy and numeracy learning alongside football coaching.
The three week, 15 hours per week programme is based at the new purpose-built Education Centre at Rhyl Football Club, appropriately named ‘Strikers’.
The programme will:
• Raise standards and achievements in literacy and numeracy.
• Increase sports participation rates through a range of learning resources linked to football.
• Create a learning environment which is secure and exciting and encourages high expectations.
• Improve the health and wellbeing of individuals.
• Engage participants residing within disadvantaged and diverse communities.
• Help participants develop the skills needed to progress to further education, training and employment.
The programme is aimed at:
• Adults 16+ years
• Pupils 14+ years under-attaining at school.
• Offenders and ex-offenders.
• Groups at risk of social exclusion.
• Long term unemployed.
The programme delivery is undertaken by Rhyl FC in partnership with Coleg Llandrillo Rhyl, with funding and support from the Basic Skills Cymru branch of the Welsh Assembly Government.

DEVELOPING CONFIDENCE AND SOFT SKILLS
Heading For Success
Developing work and social skills through football to bring about positive changes in the lives of young people and communities. The project is designed to deliver employability skills through this popular sport showing young people how to develop communication, team work and presentation skills. BTEC awards shall be gained throughout the programme.
‘Heading for Success’ takes place at Colwyn Bay Football Club and with the help from a team of ‘stars’ within the football industry, participants will learn how to design, plan and run activities as well as gaining skills and experience to help move on to further education or employment.
The programme is open to participants living in areas of Abergele/Pensarn, Colwyn Bay and Llandudno and aged between 16-24 who are not in education, training or employment.

DEVELOPING SKILLS FOR WORK
ESTART – BTCV
An introductory training course delivered by BTCV covering countryside management and horticulture skills. Opportunities are available to obtain CSCS cards and other qualifications suitable for the construction industry.
Although the programme is designed as a stepping stone into the countryside management, horticulture or construction industries, the programme also focuses on the process of training, team working and improved fitness levels, making people suitable for a range of employment.
The programme is targeting those who are unemployed in the area of the Tudno ward in Llandudno.

IT Skills for Work
Communties First in the Tudno ward in Llandudno are offering IT up-skilling and employability advice and support at the Ty Llywelyn Community Centre. The tutor offers a range of up-skilling sessions tailored to the communities need to gain a foothold onto the employment ladder. The tutor is on hand to support with employment seeking activities, such as CV writing, application form completion, job searching and the more specialist areas of IT training.
Drop-in sessions are available, with support being offered on the site by Jobcentre Plus and Want 2 Work and existing and potential local employers for insight and advice regarding skills and opportunities.
